Join us for a unique workshop with Sámi yoiker Anna Näkkäläjärvi-Länsman, also known as Ánnámáret. She will introduce us to the musical culture of her native Sámi community, the indigenous people of the Arctic. We will learn about the characteristics of the yoik, also known as luohti in the Northern Sámi language.

This is one of the earliest musical traditions still alive in Europe and is passed down through the generations as an oral tradition. Similar to yodelling, luohtis are performed without accompaniment. However, in yoiking, it is not the performance that matters, but the intimate relationship between the singer and the song. A luohti, meaning a Northern Sámi yoik, is often a gift from a parent or relative and accompanies a person throughout their life; the two exist together.
The workshops are intended for a wide audience, including music and singing enthusiasts, as well as beginners. This is an exceptional opportunity to immerse yourself in the sounds of the North and try yoiking under the guidance of an experienced artist.
